Upbeat program

What is Upbeat?

Why do we use the word “upbeat”? Technically speaking, upbeat refers to the offbeats in a measure, but for musicians and music lovers alike, “upbeat” can also describe the feeling of a piece of music. A piece characterized as upbeat is typically lively and cheerful. This is often conveyed through the tempo (fast-paced), the rhythm (syncopation or emphasis on the offbeats), and sometimes the harmonic progressions used.
