Mireille Asselin, soprano
Deemed “a treasure” by the Toronto Star, Canadian soprano Mireille Asselin enjoys a diverse career spanning opera, concert, and recital repertoire. She has performed five seasons at the Metropolitan Opera, including a standout appearance stepping in as Adele on opening night of Die Fledermaus, praised as one of New York’s “most enchanting” performances of the season.
Ms. Asselin’s operatic career has seen her perform on international and Canadian stages, with recent highlights including her West End debut at London’s Royal Ballet and Opera starring as Arianna in Handel’s Giustino, La Folie in Rameau’s Platée at Garsington Opera (UK), Jonathas in Charpentier’s David et Jonathas with Opera Atelier (Toronto), Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Canadian Opera Company, and Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the National Arts Centre and the Théatre des Champs-Elysées (Paris). Other engagements this season included her role debut as Nellie in the Canadian premiere of 10 Days in a Madhouse (Orth/Moscovitch) with Tapestry Opera/Luminato Festival and appearances with the Montreal Bach Festival, Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau, Chorus Niagara, Early Music Vancouver, Victoria Baroque, Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra, Ottawa Chamberfest and the Brooklyn Art Song Society.
An accomplished concert artist, Asselin has appeared with major orchestras and ensembles including the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Minnesota Orchestra, Handel and Haydn Society, Milwaukee Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, and Les Violons du Roy. She is a champion of contemporary music, having commissioned and premiered numerous works, and originated the role of Eurydice in ORPHEUS VR with Re:Naissance Opera. A committed recitalist, she is a core member of The Mirror Visions Ensemble, a vocal chamber music collective.
Ms. Asselin holds a Master of Music from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music from the Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory of Music and is a graduate of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio.
